🥰 Enjoy a full list of rental + studio policies in your Rental Agreement.
🥰 Our Venue has been a diverse safe-haven for all performers, artists, audiences, + visitors since 2002.
SIgn AGREEMENT
Before renting space at Chez Bushwick, all new renters must sign a rental agreement that includes our liability waiver and studio usage policies. Please email signed rental agreements to studio@jonahbokaer.net.
We also ask you to schedule a 5-10 minute phone call with us to go over important logistics regarding renting with us, such as getting in and out of the building, and how to book rehearsals.
SEND REQUEST: SEE SCHEDULE
We do not do online forms for bookings, we correspond with Artists, to serve Artists, who must email the venue directly with their rental requests. The venue will confirm all requests via email. Rentals are all treated fairly, equally, equitably, ontime ~ and even further, chronologically.
We recommend submitting requests at least 72 hours before your desired date and time. Studio availability is visible, transparent, and time-stamped on our schedule published online. We accept booking requests up to 3 months in advance of today’s date. We kindly ask you to refrain from booking half hour “cutters” (i.e. we kindly ask you to consider 3pm-4pm, not 3:30pm-4:30pm).
Pre-payment: REQUIRED
Pre-Payments are what confirms your Booking, while we serve 1142 Artists, 365 days per year. Pre-Payments are encouraged at the time of your Booking Email: but become owed and due by the time you exit the property. We accept online payments, securely via SalesForce and a customized Database for the performing arts. and cash payments in our studio mailbox. Members do received discounted rental rates, subsidized by the philanthropic community since 2002, and pre-payments confirm your booking. Thank you for onboarding with these pre-payment practices, and please contact us with any help, guidance, or accessibility needs required!
Cancellation POLICY: STRICT
2002-Present
Our Cancellation Policy is strict which, in turn, protects our longterm ability to serve the nonprofit performance community in economic terms. Cancellations can be understood as a rare event when receiving these highly subsidized rates in the Arts: rates which are unique in New York State for Dance. For all activities, Cancellations must be made with a minimum of Two Weeks (14 Days) In Advance, via email only, to studio@jonahbokaer.net, otherwise all fees remain still owed and due. Thank you for respecting this policy while we serve, currently, 1142 individual artists and companies fairly, equally, equitably ~ and ontime! 🥰
Intentional Language, 2015-Present:
Our language here is intentional. “Credit,” which is GAAP Accounting Terminology (we employ accountants) is not used in this policy intentionally. “Refund” is technically not GAAP Accounting Terminology, but has entered the lexicon more freely than most nonprofits have the capacity to meet in terms of generational expectations. That language is not used in this policy intentionally, because refunds still incur Processing Fees for & to the nonprofit, by & from the entity cancelling. This language is Board-approved, and again “cancellations can be understood as a rare event when receiving these highly subsidized rates in the Arts: which are unique in New York State for Dance!” 🥰
2025 Realness Update:
OK Children ;) ! 23 years of steady and loving program services have taught us a few things. We’re talking about a 365 day per year venue, a date range that few larger venues or museums attempt to offer. We’re talking about Hurricane Sandy (and what we learned while keeping services going). We’re talking about COVID-19 (and what we learned while keeping services going). We’re talking about Doomful Orange-Sky Smog From North American Wildfires (while keeping services going). We’re talking ecological eclipses in our lifetimes. We’re talking about hottest summers on record, coldest winters on record, you name it. Y’all keep dancing, and so do we! The Realness here though is that Jonah upgraded this property, and others, to have 3 Energy Systems: 1 of them Renter Controlled. We are also very unique (and real) about running a property for you that features 2 Walls Of Windows; 2 Walls Of Powerful Radiators; 2 Fans; and a Renter-Controlled HVAC for the spectrum of your comfort and wishes and needs. Children, you may have needs - but you also have access to Temperature Controls with this venue and that is the Realness you see ;). Do not contact a senior accountant about Temperature Refunds. We would never be like “that’s on you boo” but we will bring up this intentional language, in response to shifting generations and shifting times, along with one more little emoji of evolution too. 🥰
Timing
So now knowing that “cancellations can be understood as a rare event when receiving these highly subsidized rates in the Arts: rates which are unique in New York State for Dance,” it should be clear that we are not refunding NYC Pizza to your debit card, we might be in dialogue about refunding your own change of plans surrounding affordable dance space for your rehearsal. In these rare events we will work with our internal colleagues, who have remained steady for 13 years, to repay the funds to you, accurately, likely Via Check, Via Bank Certified Check, and Via USPS. If you worked to book our venue electronically, then that means we have an Address On File for you. The reason for this operating model is because electronic transactions incur Fees (both to us + to you), and we imagine Artists don’t want Double Fees while initiating a cancelation ;). For the record we do not initiate cancellations on our side. Email will commence to verify an Address On File in these rare events, so there won’t be any confusion on that front. We have thought this through, and we’ve lived it, so we got you boo!!🥰
